Core Setup
Decentralized services that allow participants to join the Catena-X dataspace and enable standardized, sovereign data exchange.
This includes mandatory components such as the Connector (e.g., Eclipse Dataspace Connector or Digital Twin Registry) which ensure secure connectivity and compliance with the Data Space Protocol. These services establish a basic connection to the dataspace, independent of any business application.
Differentiation from Business Applications:
Business Applications are ready-to-use solutions for specific use cases (e.g., PCF, Traceability, Quality) and often come with an embedded Connector or Digital Twin Registry.
Core Setup Provider deliver generic foundational services required by all participants, independent of any specific use case. They ensure technical connectivity and compliance.

Quick facts
Required core setup
An EDC connector is a core technology enabling secure and sovereign data exchange within Catena-X. The connector manages multiple processes. It allows users to publish data offerings to a shared catalog and to discover offerings from others. It provides means to get access to the data offerings by negotiating access agreements between the consumer and the provider.
The digital twin registry is a directory that stores and manages references to digital twins, allowing participants to discover and retrieve asset-related data.
